Because there is no shortage of information about mold removal, from how-to do-it-yourself tips to the procedures used by certified technicians, it appears that not too much is available that examine the fungi themselves. But why should this be the case? Especially because knowing oneâs enemy, as the old dictum goes, means winning half the battle â and being able to tell friend from foe would seem an important aspect as well (after all, not all molds are harmful, and some are even useful). Thus itâs probably best if we now turn our attention to these microorganisms themselves, what they are and so forth, taking stock of everything that concerns these incredible lifeforms.
Though typically thought of as nothing but a nuisance at best, molds are incredibly diverse with such differences in characteristics as to make one species seems totally unrelated to another. Thatâs quite some range of variation there, wouldnât you agree! But thatâs only natural given the amount of differentiation available in the fungus kingdom, from yeast to mushrooms, so it seems like we should learn about fungi before we jump into molds.
But what do you know; fungi are also quite strange and full of variety, as just noted, and a meaningful consideration of them would also be very much beyond the purview of this article, actually. So how about we just note some fun facts about them instead by way of an introduction, such as, for example, the fact that for all their many botanical traits, fungi are more like animals than plants. But again, even a quick detour would be beyond whatâs possible with a simple short article such as this so letâs just get back to our molds now!
But guess what: molds will also be outside the scope of this article to adequately address! Then again, what we can do is dabble in some fun facts by way of an introduction, however fleeting. So, check this out: thousands upon thousands of species of molds exist, and itâs likely that many unknown ones have yet to be discovered still. Some of these interesting creatures can live, incredibly, under extreme conditions such as those of Antarctica (yes, itâs a fact), though most are not so hardy and cannot grow at a measly thirty-nine degrees Fahrenheit (thatâs four degrees Celsius). But for those few that can, some even manage to survive highly acidic environments, or those of anti-bacterial soap and petroleum products such as jet fuel!
And so, with that, itâs almost certainly really simple to see why experienced mold removal (also called remediation or abatement) is desirable. These issues can reside anywhere, anyhow! Nicely, basically, by far the most prevalent of household molds and mildew are topic to human intervention, of course, but it is a significant job and typically costly, in all probability involving the knocking down of some walls or, extra likely, the full sealing off of numerous.
