Model-turned-author Aminka Ozmun has less than a handful of months left before her self-imposed opening day deadline for her eponymous website!
We caught up with the romance writer via internet chat and deluged her with some questions.
So how’s Valentine’s Day looking from this vantage point?
It’s all right, so far. Everything’s coming together nicely — the technological back-end, I mean. A lot of hard-coding had to be done to achieve just the kind of design and behavior I want but it was all worth it to get something that’s really me!
Did you finally settle on a shopping cart?
Yes, finally! It’s still not “ideal” — by which I mean, I didn’t get the nice soft add-to-cart AJAX effects I was hoping for — but it’s got a lot else to recommend itself, such as a very intuitive method for placing the add-to-cart button. (Yes, you’d think something like this would be elementary and obvious, but that’s just not the case yet in WordPress eCommerce!)
Which solution are you actually using?
I’m using Cart66 Pro and so far I’m very satisfied — especially since I do know that they’re planning on just that AJAX soft add-to-cart feature I want so much!
That was the biggest challenge for you; what’s holding you back now?
Just the usual: Fleshing-out the site, filling it up with content. Saying it like that, it sounds like this one simple thing but believe me, it’s a lot of work!
Naturally, but you are attempting something rather complex.
Hopefully only “sophisticated!” Though I know what you mean. And you know what? I don’t regret it one bit. I want to house my own community on the site, so it makes sense to go all-out: Forums, resources, and utility beyond just “buy-now!”
Very ambitious indeed. But speaking of forums, have you decided on a plugin, then?
No, I haven’t even looked at that aspect of things yet! Not really; not yet. I had high hopes for bbPress but I’m not sure now; it rather looks as if things are still at Square One or Two there.
Any predictions for the future — for our next interview?
Forums! ;-)
